SEMA To Oppose Action As Threat to Modified Racecars and Parts Suppliers

Washington, DC (February 8, 2016) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a regulation to prohibit conversion of vehicles originally designed for on-road use into racecars.  The regulation would also make the sale of certain products for use on such vehicles illegal.  The proposed regulation was contained within a non-related proposed regulation entitled “Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles—Phase 2.”

The regulation would impact all vehicle types, including the sports cars, sedans and hatch-backs commonly converted strictly for use at the track.  While the Clean Air Act prohibits certain modifications to motor vehicles, it is clear that vehicles built or modified for racing, and not used on the streets, are not the “motor vehicles” that Congress intended to regulate.

“This proposed regulation represents overreaching by the agency, runs contrary to the law and defies decades of racing activity where EPA has acknowledged and allowed conversion of vehicles,” said SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting.   “Congress did not intend the original Clean Air Act to extend to vehicles modified for racing and has re-enforced that intent on more than one occasion.”

SEMA submitted comments in opposition to the regulation and met with the EPA to confirm the agency’s intentions.  The EPA indicated that the regulation would prohibit conversion of vehicles into racecars and make the sale of certain emissions-related parts for use on converted vehicles illegal.  Working with other affected organizations, including those representing legions of professional and hobbyist racers and fans, SEMA will continue to oppose the regulation through the administrative process and will seek congressional support and judicial intervention as necessary.

The EPA has indicated it expects to publish final regulations by July 2016.

It seems like there is no end to Obama’s questionable schemes to make things work his way, never mind that most of these schemes will be harmful to the safety and well being of our country and certainly detrimental to our huge national debt of over 18 trillion dollars.

The latest Obama scheme would turn military bases into baby-sitting stations for hordes of illegal immigrants (bear in mind that vetting of these immigrants would not be possible as government in Syria is in total shambles and Syrian passports can be bought for around $200 on the black market.) As much as we may desire to help the refugees, one must realize that just a relatively few refugees bent on killing Americans and destroying key facilities could easily create nationwide chaos.

Dr. Ben Carson, a Presidential candidate, has recently been to the Mid­east and has interviewed many Syrians with the question: Would you rather return to your county if it were safe, or go to the United states. The overwhelming answer was return to their own country. Not too long ago a key electrical substation south of San Francisco was shot up, which resulted in a blackout of considerable size and the perpetrators of this sabotage have never been found.

Our electrical grid is very vulnerable and large parts of it could be brought down across the U.S.A by a fairly small group of terrorists. Many large transformers on the power grid cannot be repaired or easily replaced as they are only manufactured overseas.

The Department of Defense reportedly called Representative Kevin Cramer (R­ND) to notify his office that at least 5,000 illegal immigrants were being relocated to U.S. Military bases. At least six military bases are under consideration right now. The bases are mainly located in the Eastern portion of the country with one noticeable exception being right here in our backyard at Travis Air Force base as one of the six being considered!

Other bases on the list are Maxwell AFB in Alabama, Tyndall AFB in Florida, Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota, Naval Support Activity in Philadelphia and Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts. Needless to say, President Obama continues to jeopardize our national security at a time when our nation faces serious threats from ISIS and other radical Islamic terrorist groups seeking to kill Americans.

Military bases are no place to house illegal immigrants, especially those like Maxwell AFB that engage in sensitive activities such as training, education and cyber warfare. To make matters worse, the Obama administration is gearing up to open even more facilities and sites to house the recent surge of illegal immigrants crossing the Mexico­/U.S. border. In the past two months, over 10,500 unaccompanied illegal minors and 12,500 families have crossed our unsecured southern border and guess what? Hardworking taxpayers are forced to pay for their housing.

The operating cost to taxpayers for the beds of each illegal immigrant is $223 per bed per day. If Congress simply made the southern border secure this expensive and possibly very dangerous threat to our country would be stopped.

Another facet of this problem concerns what length of time will the illegal aliens be staying on the military bases before they are turned loose. Will they be able to find jobs or will they wind up on endless welfare? How would this affect the Vacaville-­Fairfield area?

Illegals are already costing California untold millions of dollars as they get free education and free medical, plus lots of other things. The bottom line is the fact that we are going to need a total change in our administration if we have any hopes of getting this country back on track!

The Supreme Court announced on Jan. 19 that it will take up a case challenging the legality of President Barack Obama’s executive actions aimed at granting quasi­-legal status and work permits to up to 5 million people who entered the U.S. illegally as children or who have children who are American citizens. The high court’s widely expected move gives Obama a chance to revive a key legacy item that has been in limbo for nearly a year, since a federal judge in Texas issued an order halting immigration moves the president announced just after the 2014 midterm elections.

The justices are expected to hear arguments on the issue in April and to hand down a ruling by the end of June. In their order Tuesday, the justices added one question to the case: whether Obama’s actions violated the constitutional provision requiring him to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed” — in essence, whether existing law bars the president from making the kinds of enforcement changes he sought to make.

…so…we’re now assisting with funding terrorists? This isn’t my definition of protecting the citizens of the United States! How many more Americans must die before our Congress takes charge and brings impeachment charges against BO?
